The art collective METE CHEER, founded in spring 2020 by Melissa Chelmis (painting) and myself (Beate C. Koehler | photography & video art), is dedicated to cross-disciplinary artistic collaboration, networking and making female artists visible. Since then, we have been consistently implementing this, for example, within the framework of the ATELIER-DINNER, which takes place every two months, and the #KULTUR_HAPPEN, which takes place once a year.
ATELIER_DINNER (STUDIO_DINNER) The ATELIER-DINNER format developed by us serves the purpose of networking and the exchange of ideas between artists and cultural practitioners while dining together in an artistically influenced environment. What is important to us here is to bring people from different fields together and to encourage them to think outside the box.
#KULTUR_HAPPEN makes the work of female artists from Bremen and the surrounding area visible across all genres. The format offers exciting insights into the diverse current work focuses of the participating women. Performing or dance performances, singing, music, literature, film or works of visual art are presented. The focus is on showing work in progress, i.e. it is not exclusively about performing and showing finished productions. Rather, it is intended to offer the artists a stage for experimentation and the opportunity to use reactions and feedback from the audience as inspiration for further work. An important element of #KULTUR_HAPPEN is the dialogue between the artists and the audience. Art should be experienced up close and the artists behind the "works of art" should become visible.
In our joint project "rooted locals and urban vibes" we explore Bremen's neighborhoods in search of special places and locally rooted people. We process our impressions in multi-layered digital and analog collages and gradually let a personal image of the city emerge with the artworks that are then created.
